Clarisonic Skincare: Santa Barbara Medical Spa Event Recap

Our “Summer Skincare” event provided us with so much information that we have decided to split the recap into three posts – each dedicated to the three topics of the evening – all of which are equally important.  The first topic is about the Clarisonic Skin Care System.

What is the Clarisonic Skin Cleansing System?

The Clarisonic skin cleansing system, or popularly known as the “Clarisonic brush”, uses a patented sonic frequency of more than 300 movements per second to gently, and thoroughly, cleanse your skin.  It removes six times more makeup and two times more dirt than cleansing with your hands alone.  The inside area of the brush oscillates ten degrees in either direction, moving with the skin’s elasticity, while the outer ring of bristles stay stationary and act as a splash guard.  The movement of the bristles makes this brush unique to all the other electronic skin brushes on the market, which use a rotary movement that tugs at the skin and can cause damage. Use the Clarisonic with any cleanser of your choice as long as it is non-abrasive.

What are the benefits of cleansing with the Clarisonic?

If you use the Clarisonic on a regular basis, once in the morning and once in the evening, you will see many benefits, including:

  • Clearer, smoother skin
  • More product absorption – your cleaner skin will absorb moisturizers, and other facial products, more thoroughly and evenly
  • Less blackheads because it removes dirt and sebum (oil)
  • Minimized appearance of pores

Clarisonic Brush Heads: Which is right for you?

There are five types of brush heads available for the face, and one for the body. The facial brush heads target different skin types:

  • Normal: perfect for normal skin, shaving prep and use on the neck and chest (this is the brush head on the grey plastic base)
  • Sensitive: for sensitive to normal skin types (this is the brush that comes with all Clarisonic units)
  • Delicate: for delicate or extra-sensitive skin (this brush has a light blue plastic base)
  • Deep Pore: use for cleansing on oily skin, large pores, and is gentle enough for daily use
  • Acne: extra-plush with bristle gradation to provide gentle cleansing for sensitive and acne prone skin

Clarisonic Settings for Optimal Cleansing

Depending on the model you buy, the Clarisonic has different speeds, or settings, ranging from a sensitive cleanse to a deeper cleanse.  The Clarisonic Mia (a popular unit for travel that comes with an international charger) has one speed, while the Mia 2 has two speeds.  The Clarisonic PRO has four speeds to meet all skin cleansing needs.

Tips for the Clarisonic

  • We learned last night from the Clarisonic rep a secret that has to be shared! Your brush can do double duty for spot treatment. Pop out the center of the brush, snap it on the Clarisonic and use this smaller brush head for the area between the nose and the cheeks and the nose itself.
  • Clean your brush head with antibacterial soap at least once per week
  • Use a permanent marker to write the date on the back of the brush head and remember to replace the brush every three months
  • For those of you who like to use the Clarisonic on your back, there is a back handle now available that attaches to the Clarisonic Pro

At Evolutions Medical Spa we use the Clarisonic brush as part of our facial services. Dr. Perkins and our staff highly recommend incorporating the Clarisonic cleansing system into you skincare routine to maintain beautiful skin in between facial services.  The Clarisonic system and brush head replacements are available for purchase at Evolutions.

Evolutions Medical Spa Event Recap: “Brighten Up” with FotoFacials, Laser Facials, Peels and More

Santa Barbara cosmetic surgeon Dr. Terry Perkins – and founder of Evolutions Medical Spa – never ceases to amaze us with the knowledge he holds about the skin and skin care. Last night he shared with a captive audience how to get on the path to clear, bright skin. Here is the recap from the “Brighten Up” educational event at Evolutions.

What stands in the way of luminous skin? For many of us, it is an issue of pigmentation. Pigmentation, also referred to as age spots, “liver” spots, freckles, is caused by melanin.  Melanin is produced as a protection to the skin in response to sun exposure (a sun “tan” is actually a skin injury), trauma, or inflammation. Melanin can also be influenced by hormones, birth control pills, and pregnancy. Appearance problems occur when melanocytes are over stimulated such as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (from pimples) or melasma, which is a broad patch of pigmentation that can occur in the epidermal or dermal layers of the skin.

How do we get rid of pigmentation? Below are the options that Dr. Perkins outlined for us:

HOME CARE

While Evolutions offers a variety of services that are effective in the treatment of pigmentation problems, Dr. Perkins stressed that it is also important to practice diligent home care to prevent or lighten pigmentation. The #1 recommendation from Dr. Perkins is to wear your sunscreen daily! The fact is that more than half of UV exposure is “incidental” exposure such as sitting near a window, driving in your car, walking outside to chat with your neighbor, you get the picture! UVA actually goes through glass, so you aren’t protected in your car or at your window office.

Evolutions offers a variety of bleaching agents and hydroquinone (which stops the formation of pigment from being formed). Some product recommendations:

  • Obagi Clear and C-Rx Night: a product with hydroquinone as an active ingredient that helps to fade unwanted pigment
  • Revale Illuminating Serum: has the highest potency of antioxidants – good anti-oxidation helps skin repair
  • Nia24: helps skin repair at the DNA level which normalizes pigmentation
  • Retinoids (“Retin A”, “Tretinoin”): help normalize cell differentiation
  • Combination Prescription Products (“Firm and Fade”): offered exclusively at Evolutions that combines Retin-A, hydroquinone, and a low potency steroid (used to calm down inflammation)

In addition to using a brightening/lightening product, you may want to add in a product that encourages cell turnover. Products that contain alpha-hydroxy acids, amino fruit acids, and retinoids are all good choices.

VIBRADERM

Vibraderm is done using abrasive aluminum paddles that provide a gentle abrasion. It is faster than microdermabrasion and does not have a vacuum component (which can cause broken capillaries).  This physical exfoliation is used to treat superficial pigment problems with no downtime. It will improve the penetration of products / peels and is great as a stand alone service or in conjunction with a peel or facial.

LIGHT-BASED TREATMENTS : FOTOFACIAL RF

This “Gold Standard” treatment of pigmentation uses Intense Pulsed Light / Radiofrequency to target pigment and “red” areas. A FotoFacial works deeper than most chemical peels and can significantly improve your skin texture by reducing redness, age spots, sun damage, spider veins, fine lines (although not a treatment for wrinkles) and large pores. We offer the FotoFacial in a series or in combination with other treatments (FotoPeel, FotoPeel Plus, and FotoFacial Genesis Packages), depending on an individual’s needs.

CHEMICAL PEELS

Chemical peels are a “controlled” injury to the skin that causes a deep, even exfoliation. At Evolutions we offer different depths of peels (from light to medium to deep).

  • AFA Peels: the alpha-hydroxy peel is a “light” peel for those who want the benefits of a peels without a large amount of actual peeling. This peel can be done alone or in a series of five (recommended).
  • Alpha Beta Peel: this is the most popular peel at Evolutions. It is a medium-depth physical exfoliation and works well to get rid of superficial sun damage and is a great choice for clients who want to see results in 4-5 days.
  • Obagi Blue Peel: this is the deepest peel offered. It will significantly improve your complexion. You will have firmer, clearer, smoother, healthier skin.

LIGHT-BASED TREATMENTS: Q-SWITCHED LASER

This newest laser is used for our newest service – tattoo removal. It delivers laser energy so rapidly that it breaks up pigment without excessive heating of the surrounding tissue.  Currently we are testing how effectively it can treat stubborn brown pigmentation. Stay tuned at a later date for more information on the Q-Switched Laser!

SUBLATIVE REJUVENATION

This unique fractional resurfacing device uses radiofrequency energy instead of light to safely treat all skin types. Sublative Rejuvenation is used to treat wrinkles, pigment, acne scarring, skin laxity, tone and texture. There is less downtime and discomfort than older fractional laser devises (i.e. the Fraxel) and it can be combined with other light-based treatments (such as the FotoFacial RF or Total Tightening) for customizable treatment options.

CHEMABRASION

This surgical procedure done by Dr. Perkins at Cosmetic Surgery Center in Santa Barbara (near Cottage Hospital) combines a deep peel with dermabrasion (not microdermabrasion). It treats wrinkles, sun damage, and pigment. You will be very impressed with the results. For more information, contact Cosmetic Surgery Center at 805.563.0000.

CONCLUSION

The best way to treat sun damage is to prevent it by using your sunscreen daily (on your face, neck, and decolletage). When pigment issues arise, there are a number of treatment options available at Evolutions and “at home”. Pigmentation can be treated on all areas of the body.

At Evolutions we always offer a complimentary consultation. If you are interested in one of our medical spa services, or simply looking for a new home care routine, call us at 805.687.0212 to make an appointment (or book online).

The Hot Accessory for Spring: White Teeth!

Teeth Whitening in Santa Barbara at EvolutionsNow that we’re on the brink of Spring, we’re beginning to see people wearing bright colors in hues of  tangerine, yellow, electric blues and greens. And lots of floral and patterns – subdued or loud – on tops and jeans. There is no question that people are boldly embracing the trends that we’ve been seeing on the runways. Bold colors are fun, they make a statement! And the one accessory that will make your look “sparkle” this Spring is white teeth!

Evolutions Medical Spa offers the most effective teeth whitening in Santa Barbara outside of a dental office. Our SpaWhite service can brighten your smile with little to no sensitivity. We know that the main concern with teeth whitening is the sensitivity that it causes – for some it is intense (burning gums and sensitive teeth) and for others it is a non-issue. The culprit of the sensitivity is peroxide, which is the key ingredient in virtually all teeth whitening products and services. Some tooth bleach manufacturers artificially lower the pH of their peroxide to make it more stable, and less sensitive, but this also lowers the effectiveness. This is a case when innovation really counts!

Our SpaWhite teeth whitening service uses patented foam pads that are saturated with a specially formulated neutral pH peroxide gel. Coupled with an advanced, spectrum-controlled light specifically developed for the SpaWhite process, the whitening process is accelerated and intensified. For most people, one or two SpaWhite sessions is sufficient for an initial treatment.

Don’t let your clothes outshine you this Spring! Instead, match your bold statement with a dazzling bright smile!

Evolutions always offers a complimentary consultation – call us at 805.687.0212 or book a consultation online.

Dermal Fillers Provide Facial Volume and Facial Volume Matters!

Perlane Before and AfterWe often get asked what the difference is between “fillers” and Botox. Botox is a purified protein that is used to treat overactive muscles, temporarily relaxing them to smooth out the wrinkles. Botox is used in the upper face to most commonly treat (in order) the frown lines, crow’s feet, and the forehead. It can be used  in other areas of the face and in the neck, as well. Botox also effectively treats hyperhidrosis – excessive sweating – in the hands, feet, and armpits.

Dermal fillers are used to restore volume that is lost in the face as the aging process occurs. Dermal fillers are more commonly used in the lower face – in the cheeks, nasolabial folds, the nose, lips, pre and post-jowl, and the corners of the mouth. Fillers are also used in the brows, temporal and central forehead as well as around the eyes. Dermal fillers are temporary and last between six and twelve (or more) months depending on the brand of filler used. Prevelle Silk lasts the shortest amount of time and Radiesse generally lasts the longest.

Recently we ran across an article in NewBeauty.com that speaks about why facial volume matters and what can be done to restore fullness, either temporarily or permanently, to achieve smoother, younger-looking skin. The article states that we begin to lose facial fat “as early as our 20s, and it’s a downhill slide” from there. It goes on to say that “facial fat deteriorates with age, but weight loss and hormonal changes can speed up the process” as well. When this happens, we are left with sunken cheeks, a down-turned mouth, hallow eyes and a soft jaw. Dermal fillers, such as Radiesse, Juvederm, Perlane, Restylane, or Prevelle Silk can help “fix” these problem areas by plumping the skin, creating more firmness and definition in the face.

Now is the time to try dermal fillers and see how they can change your look! Perlane and Restylane are both offering rebates on dermal filler treatments from now until March 31, 2012.

Rebate Offer: Save $40 per syringe of Restylane (2 syringe minimum) or $50 per syringe of Perlane.

Schedule a complimentary consultation online or call Evolutions at 805.687.0212 to discuss which dermal filler would be best for your needs. Read the entire NewBeauty.com article here

Medical Spa Event Recap: Radiesse Dermal Filler at Evolutions

Last night’s educational event at Evolutions Medical Spa highlighted the dermal filler Radiesse.  Greg, our representative from Radiesse, did a thorough presentation that explained what Radiesse is, how it is used, and who can use it. He also showed many impressive before-and-after pictures of Radiesse that illustrated what a difference Radiesse can make in someone’s face.

Read on for the complete recap of the Radiesse presentation:

What is Radiesse Wrinkle Filler?

Radiesse is an injectable filler that contains tiny calcium-based microspheres which are made of components similar to those found naturally in your body. Radiesse instantly restores fullness to smooth out signs of aging and has the beneficial side-effect of stimulating our own natural collagen! Results are instantaneous and may last one year or more and is a more affordable wrinkle correction for a broad range of patients.

Radiesse is the only calcium-based filler. Other dermal fillers, such as Restylane and Juvederm, are made with hyaluronic acid and are not known to stimulate collagen.

What is Radiesse used for?

Radiesse has been approved by the FDA to be used to treat:

Why would I need Radiesse?

As we age, our nasolabial lines and marionette lines deepen, and our cheek and eye areas lose volume. Natural collagen begins to breakdown creating loss of elasticity and wrinkles. The lower face begins to take on more of a broad square shape as opposed to the upside down triangular shape of a youthful face. Radiesse wrinkle filler provides volume and lift needed to diminish the signs of aging for visible, long-lasting results.

What is the difference between Radiesse and anti-wrinkle treatments like Botox or Dysport?

Botox and Dysport are muscle relaxers that are typically used in the forehead area. Dermal fillers, such as Radiesse, are typically used in the lower part of the face (from the eyes to chin) to replace volume. We would not want to use Botox or Dysport in the lower part of the face because you wouldn’t want to stop the muscles from working in that area. Instead, a dermal filler would be used to replace the volume lost.

What is a Radiesse treatment like?

Now Radiesse can be mixed with an anesthetic (lidocaine) prior to injection to increase the comfort level. Clinical studies have shown that people felt a 60% reduction in pain level during injection. There is no downtime after a treatment. A person may want to use a cold pack to reduce swelling and the chance of bruising and any exercise after the treatment is not recommended (on the day of the treatment).  The day after treatment you can resume any exercise activity.

Who can use Radiesse?

Radiesse is ideal for a broad range of patients for instant correction of moderate to severe wrinkles. Those who should not use Radiesse wrinkle fillers are people who are pregnant, breastfeeding, or have an active infection in the area to be treated.

If you would like to know how Radiesse, or other dermal fillers, can benefit you, please call Evolutions for a complimentary consultation at 805.687.0212.

Evolutions Event Recap: Tightening and Lightening

On Wednesday evening, Evolutions Medical Spa and Santa Barbara cosmetic surgeon Dr. Terry Perkins hosted an interactive and educational event about Tightening and Lightening the skin. Both tightening and lightening can be done at Evolutions through various services, without invasive surgery, and will yield noticeable results!

Part I: SKIN TIGHTENING – Facial Rejuvenation

What is skin laxity?

Skin laxity is a result of damage and loss of collagen and elastin – the structural components of the dermis. Collagen provides the rigidity to connective tissues and elastin allows them stretch. As we age collagen loses elasticity and our skin sags. Sun damage also plays a role in aging the skin as well.

How can we treat skin laxity?

There are several options including:

  • Surgical options such as traditional surgery (face lifts) or deep peels (chemabrasion).
  • Non-surgical treatments include light-based (FotoFacial), radiofrequency (Sublative Rejuvenation, ReFirme), and focused ultrasound.

How does treating skin laxity non-surgically work?

It has been found that sustained heating of the dermis works to treat skin laxity. The immediate effect is collagen contraction and long term stimulation of collagen remodeling.

Who is a good candidate for non-surgical skin tightening treatments?

  • Age is not a barrier – clients can be anywhere from 30 to 80+ years old
  • Clients who have a minimum amount of excess fat in the area of concern and those with skin that is neither very thin or very thick
  • Clients who have realistic expectations – the non-surgical procedures can turn back the clock a few years, not decades
  • A great candidate is someone who is not ready for surgery but still wants to tighten the skin

Skin tightening options available at Evolutions:

  • Titan: the Titan is a safe infrared light that heats the dermis as well as the skin’s surface. The heating contracts the collagen and stimulates new collagen to be produced.
  • ReFirme: ReFirme is an FDA cleared non-invasive skin tightening procedure that features elōs technology – a combination of bi-polar radio frequency (RF) and optical energy.
  • Total Tightening: Dr. Perkins has developed an exclusive protocol combining the technologies or ReFirme and Titan into one treatment called Total Tightening. This treatment synergistically works to heat the entire upper half of the dermis. It is exclusive to Evolutions Medical Spa. A series of 4 treatments is recommended for best results.

Why do you recommend skin tightening treatments in a series?

Laser and light-based treatments are generally done in a series because the energy necessary to cause dramatic change in the skin (which cause injury and then recovery, which is what grows new skin) cannot be accomplished in a single treatment, instead it is the cumulative effects of multiple treatments that yield the best results. If, after a few treatments, a client sees the results they are looking for, they can save the remaining treatments to be used as “maintenance” at a later date.

Part II: SKIN LIGHTENING – Improve Excess Pigmentation

What is pigmentation?

Pigmentation is created by melanin in the skin. Melanin is produced by melanocytes. Different skin types have different levels of melanocyte activity – therefore different skin colors occur within people.

Why does the body produce melanin?

Normal production of melanin is based on skin type. Melanin levels rise in response to sun exposure (such as a sun tan which is equal to a skin injury), trauma, and inflammation. Extra melanin can also be produced due to hormones, birth control pills, and pregnancy.

When do pigmentation problems occur?

If melanocytes are over-stimulate, appearance problems can occur such as:

  • Sun damage also referred to as age spots, “liver” spots, freckles
  • Post inflammatory hyperpigmentation can occur with pimples
  • Melasma – a broad patch of pigmentation – can occur in the dermal or epidermal layers of the skin

Treatment for pigmentation problems
The following highlights products and services that are available at Evolutions to treat a number of pigmentation problems.

  •  Sunscreen: your best defense against pigmentation is to prevent it! Year round, daily use of sunscreen is always recommended!
  • Home Care: there are two categories of home care products that can help lighten and brighten the skin – bleaching agents and exfoliating agents.
  • Home care bleaching agents: Obagi Clear, C-Rx Night (with hydroquinone), the newest, fastest lightening agent Elure (read more about Elure in a recent blog post), Revale Illumenesse Brightening Complex, Nia24 products, and retinoids (“Retin-A”). At Evolutions we compound our Tretinoin to reduce the price for clients.
  • Exfoliating agents assist in increasing cell turnover: products with alpha-hydroxy acids, amino fruit acids and retinoids all help to expedite cell turnover (which slows as we age).
  • Chemical Peels: the fastest way to exfoliate and increase cell turnover is through a chemical peel. Available in multiple strengths, from light to deep, chemical peels can make a dramatic difference in the skin in a matter of days (somewhere between 5 to 10 days, with the skin continuing to improve thereafter). The peels available at Evolutions are:
  1. Phase Five Peel / Clay Mask Peel
  2. Alpha Beta Peel
  3. Comfort Peels (Light, Medium, Deep)
  4. Obagi Blue Peel

Read all about the various chemical peels, how they feel, and how effective they can be, in a various blog post.

  • Vibradermabrasion: this service provides a physical exfoliation that can treat superficial pigment problems (with no downtime). It also is a great add-on service to facials and as a preparation for peels as it will improve the penetration of product or the peel. Vibraderm is superior to the popular microdermabrasion treatment because there is no suction component to it (which can cause broken capillaries).
  • Light-Based Treatments: these treatments are safe and non-invasive, using intense pulsed light (IPL) and radio frequency technology to diminish imperfections in the skin such as excess pigment as well as “red” areas. The FotoFacial RF is the “gold standard” for treatment of pigmentation and it works deeper than most chemical peels. The FotoFacial is available in a series or in combination with other treatments (FotoPeel, FotoPeel Plus, and FotoFaical Genesis Package).
  • *NEW* Light-Based Treatment: Evolutions just acquired the brand new Q-Plus C (Q-switched laser) light-based treatment that is able to treat tattoos of all colors and a variety of pigmentation issues.
  • Sublative Rejuvenation: this fractional surfacing device uses radio frequency energy, instead of light, to treat wrinkles, pigment, acne scarring, skin laxity, tone and texture. There is less downtime and less discomfort that older fractional laser devices (such as the Fraxel) and customizable treatment options are available. Sublative Rejuvenation can be combined with other light-based treatments such as the FotoFacial RF or Total Tightening.
  • Chemabrasion: this is a surgical procedure that combines a deep peel with dermabrasion. Chemabrasion is a more aggressive option to treat acne scarring and deep wrinkles. The change can be very dramatic. Down time is approximately one week.

Part III: CONCLUSION

The best way to treat sun damage is to prevent it by daily use of sunscreen. When pigment issues arise, there are a number of treatment options available, both at Evolutions and at home. All areas of the body can be treated for pigmentation problems.

Evolutions Medical Spa offers a complimentary consultation by filling out our online form or calling 805.687.0212.

Evolutions Voted Best Medical Spa from Independent Poll

Evolutions Medical Spa won “Best Medical Spa” in the Independent’s Readers Poll awards published last week! This is our third consecutive win in this category. We are grateful to our clients and the Santa Barbara community for voting for us. Thank you!

When Santa Barbara cosmetic surgeon Dr. Terry Perkins began thinking of the concept of a medical spa, he envisioned providing non-invasive or minimally invasive medical aesthetic services using the most innovative and up-to-date technology in a luxurious spa environment. Almost six years later, Evolutions is the largest medical spa in the Santa Barbara area, with a highly-trained staff of aesthetic nurses and medical aestheticians, all personally trained by Dr. Perkins.

What differentiates a medical spa from a day spa is that the services are “medical” and aimed at improving something on the client whereas a day spa focuses on relaxation and pampering. What differentiates Evolutions from most other medical spas is that Dr. Perkins, the spa’s Medical Director, plays an active role in the spa, seeing and treating clients at Evolutions several days each week. All medical spas are backed by a physician, but many do not actively participate in the medspa’s day to day activities. Dr. Perkins supervision keeps the quality of services rendered consistent and above standard.

Some of the most popular services offered at Evolutions are injectable anti-wrinkle treatments of Botox, Dysport, and dermal fillers (i.e. Radiesse, Restylane, Juvederm, Perlane). FotoFacials and Laser Facials are also widely sought after skin treatments that improve uneven pigmentation (from sun damage, age spots, etc.,), tighten pores, and address fine lines and wrinkles. Laser Hair Removal is another favorite service because we have multiple hair removal technologies to best serve the individual needs of every hair color and skin type. Medical grade chemical peels offer extraordinary exfoliation for a dramatic result in a short amount of time. Other spa services address a wide variety of skin types and concerns including acne, sun damage, stretch marks, and hair restoration.

Evolutions always offers complimentary consultations and monthly educational events. Keep up with us on Facebook (and be privy to special offers, great giveaways, skin care tips, and event information), Twitter, or sign up for our newsletter. Contact us at 805.687.0212.

Skin Care for Women in Their 20s from a Santa Barbara Medical Spa

Our Santa Barbara skin care expert is back – and guest authoring a piece on skin care for women in their 20s.

– Skin Care Tips for Women in Your 20s –
Often the early 20s is a transitional period for many young women. For most this means that their hormones have become more balanced and they see a decrease in acne breakouts (although for some acne continues well into the 20s and beyond – read more about acne management tips from Santa Barbara cosmetic surgeon Dr. Perkins).
Developing a good skin care regimen is important to do in your 20s because it sets the tone (literally and figuratively!) for the future of your skin. Damage to skin could have started as early as childhood (from excessive exposure to sun and/or sunburns) but may not show up until your 30s and beyond so now is the time to begin a regimen to keep your skin healthy and, hopefully, to correct some of the damage and/or, at the very least keep, it at a minimum.
  • Make an investment in your skin. Start using the Clarisonic skin care brush twice daily with a mild cleanser dedicated to your skin type (oily, normal or dry). Toss the benzoyl peroxide-based teenage face wash formulas.
  • Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 (or higher) sunscreen that provides a physical sunblock. Obagi or TiZo makes sunscreens that contain titanium dioxide and/or zinc oxide that provides a physical barrier to the sun’s penetrating UVA and UVB rays. The price tag may be more than you are used to, but a little goes a long way. Prevention of sun damage now means less money spent in your future on trying to erase sun damage! Use daily, year round, and reapply after swimming or excessive perspiration.
  • Use a retinoid two to five times per week at night. Retinoids (commonly known as the brand name “Retin-A”) were traditionally prescribed to fight acne. Additional benefits of retinoids have surfaced such as increasing cell turnover, boosting collagen, stabilizing aging cells and helping to reverse photodamage (in the forms of wrinkles and age spots).
  • Use an exfoliating wash or serum three to five times per week to remove dry or dead skin cells, increase cell turnover, decrease clogged pores which leaves your skin with a healthy glow.
  • If your skin is on the oily side, you still need to keep your skin hydrated with an oil-free moisturizer that delivers all the benefits of a regular moisturizer without pore-clogging ingredients. If you’re skin is dry, use a regular moisturizer. Apply the moisturizer at night.
  • And if you are still experience breakouts, consider using a 2% salicyclic acid and/or benzoyl peroxide cream as needed.
There is no better time to start a great skin care regimen than in your 20s. You won’t regret it and you will thank yourself in the years to come!
