Frequently Asked Questions About Miradry

In general, our bodies produce sweat to help cool us down when we’re overheated. For many people, though, sweat glands produce more sweat than is necessary to cool the body. This frequently happens in the underarm area.

Underarm sweat is produced through two types of sweat glands located just below the surface of the skin. The eccrine glands secrete a clear, odorless fluid to help cool the body. The apocrine glands produce a thicker fluid that gives underarm sweat its distinctive odor.

Why do some people sweat more than others?

Some people have overactive sweat glands, meaning they frequently turn on when they should be at rest, and they produce much more sweat than what’s needed to cool the body. Some people’s sweat glands can produce four or five times more sweat than normal.

Excessive sweating is actually a very common condition that affects millions of people in the U.S. In fact, 1 in 5 Americans says they sweat excessively.

If you answer yes to any of the following, the miraDry procedure may be right for you.

• Does your underarm sweat make you feel embarrassed?
• Does underarm sweat interfere with your daily activities?
• Do you frequently apply antiperspirant?
• Do you worry someone will notice your sweat stains?
• Do you change your clothes more than once a day due to underarm sweat?
• Do you wear fabrics, colors and styles of clothes that do not show sweat easily?
• Are you frustrated over constantly ruining clothes?

No, it is not harmful to eliminate sweating in your underarms for a couple of reasons. First, as mentioned above, many people have overactive sweat glands that produce more sweat than is necessary to cool the body. Second, the body has over four million sweat glands! Only 2% of those are located in the underarm region. Eliminating this 2% does not adversely affect your body’s ability to cool itself.

No, you will not have any additional sweating anywhere else. When sweat glands are removed from the underarms, you simply stop sweating in that area. So don’t worry, your body won’t start sweating more in other areas to “compensate.”

The miraDry procedure is a safe, clinically proven, FDA-cleared solution for significantly reducing underarm sweat. The procedure is quick, non-invasive, and you can return to work immediately afterward.

The technology works by delivering precisely controlled electromagnetic energy to the region where the underarm sweat glands reside. This heats both the sweat (eccrine) and odor (apocrine) glands and eliminates them for good.

Yes! The miraDry procedure is FDA-cleared and has been performed successfully on thousands of patients. It’s been proven to be both highly safe and highly effective.

The total time is between an hour and an hour and a half. The first half-hour is spent numbing and prepping the skin for the procedure. The treatment itself lasts 30 minutes to an hour, depending on how big the underarm area is in each individual client.

You will notice a significant reduction after one treatment (typically 70%+). A second treatment will improve the results further (80% – 90%+)

For clients with a significant sweating issue, two treatments are recommended. In rare cases, a client might want to have a third treatment done.

Most clients experience little pain because the procedure is performed under local anesthesia. During the procedure, most people experience some pressure and light pulling on the skin, with some sensations of warmth. There may be an occasional “hot spot” that lasts briefly but is usually well tolerated. On average, patients describe the discomfort as about a 2 on a scale of 1 to 10 (10 being the highest).

AbsmiraDry is a highly effective treatment. Almost all clients will receive a significant reduction in underarm sweat (70%+) after only one treatment. A second treatment increases the efficacy even more (to an 80% – 90%+ reduction).

Once sweat and odor glands are destroyed, they do not come back. So, the results are permanent!

The cost depends on a number of factors, including if you’d like Dr. Perkins or one of the nurses do the procedure and if you purchase a package of 2 treatments or if you just do 1 at a time. Please call us or come in for a complimentary consultation for more info and to get an exact quote.

You can expect minimal to no downtime after the procedure. You should expect some swelling and tenderness under the arms for a couple of days, though this can be reduced by taking a mild over-the-counter pain medication (like Advil) and using ice packs. You should be able to return to normal activities or work right after the procedure, and you can usually resume exercise within several days.

At this time the miraDry is only designed to work with the anatomy of the underarms.

The next step is to call us at 805-687-0212 to set up a complimentary consultation with one of our friendly and knowledgeable nurses. They will help you to determine if miraDry is the right procedure for you.

miraDry Reviews

I’ve been bothered by excessive underarm sweat since I was 14. I’ve used just about every antiperspirant on the market including clinical brands and have even tried women’s brands. I’d try wiping my underarms with towels periodically, but nothing really worked. I would often have to change clothes during school or work to cope with the sweating. I’d always have sweat marks.

Since having the miraDry procedure my underarm sweating has nearly disappeared. I don’t worry about excessive sweating anymore which means not worrying about what to wear or having to change clothes.

The miraDry treatment was pretty simple, quick, and painless with long-lasting results;  much better than the other options out there of using needles and having to return every 6 months to do it again.

I’m extremely satisfied and could not be happier. I’m no longer embarrassed or self-conscious of my underarm sweat and cannot imagine ever living that way again. With long-lasting results, it’s a life-changer.

As a sufferer of excessive underarm sweat my entire life and having tried everything short of Botox, miraDry by far was the best thing I have ever done to help with my condition.

I no longer worry about having to throw away t-shirts because no matter what I tried I ruined them in a matter of months. I no longer have the anxiety of wearing a suit and having the entire underarm area entirely saturated. And forget about ever being able to wear a colored shirt; I always had to wear a white shirt. I was basically at my wit’s end and became resigned to the fact that I would always be saturated but hoped it wouldn’t happen.

I knew my condition was somewhat serious because I would emerge from the shower don antiperspirant, and while I was getting dressed – here came the drip from my armpits! I just got out of the shower! I would scream, How can I possibly be sweating already?

I just want to say that this is a great life-changing procedure and will benefit many people just like me. The side effects were exactly as my doctor said, very minimal. Thanks again, you have a great product.
