RADIESSE Dermal Filler at Santa Barbara Medical Spa’s “Injectable Week”

Evolutions Medical Spa‘s most popular event of the year is just around the corner! Injectable Week features “once a year” specials on all our injectables including Botox, Dysport, Perlane, Restylane, Juvederm, and Radiesse. Botox and Dysport relax muscles in the forehead region to smooth wrinkles while dermal fillers “fill” crevices, wrinkles, fine lines, and folds.  A common place to use a filler is in the nasolabial lines that are present from the nose to the corners of the mouth (see the before and after picture below) however fillers can be used anywhere that your face is lacking volume.

RADIESSE Before-and-After
RADIESSE used to fill the nasolabial lines.

There are dermal fillers made with hyaluronic acid molecules that attract water to the area filled which results in a restoration of facial volume. These fillers are Perlane, Restylane, and Juvederm and they commonly last six months or more (depending on the person). Our clients who have used these fillers before have been very satisfied with their results.  There is another filler, RADIESSE, that we wanted to highlight because it has an added benefit that hyaluronic acid fillers do not have – Radiesse can stimulate the production of your own collagen (and has been clinically proven to do so)!

RADIESSE is an FDA-approved injectable filler that is composed of calcium-based microspheres. It acts as a scaffolding under the skin to provide instantaneous lift and fullness while stimulating your body’s own collagen production so that your skin looks better over time. In addition to the collagen production, Radiesse has been clinically proven to last a year or more in clients. Radiesse can be a very affordable wrinkle correction option because the time between touch-ups is longer and you may need less product on subsequent treatments. For instance, if you need 2 syringes of Radiesse at the initial treatment for full correction, you may need only 1 syringe on a follow-up treatment, which could take place one or one and half years later.

A Radiesse treatment is relatively short and comfortable. Radiesse is FDA approved to be mixed with an anesthetic (lidocaine) to significantly improve your comfort level during the procedure. There is no downtime after a Radiesse treatment although exercising after the treatment is not recommended (normal exercise can be resumed the next day). Swelling or bruising may occur and can be treated with an ice pack. Some people do not experience any swelling or bruising.

Popular treatment areas are shown below but Radiesse can be used in many other places, as determined by you and your clinician:

A great time to try Radiesse is during our Injectable Week where there will be savings and chances to win great raffle prizes during the entire week.

Injectable Week starts on Monday, November 26th and ends on Saturday, December 1st. Appointments book fast during this popular week so call today to get a spot – 805-687-0212!

Evolutions Medical Spa’s Event Recap: Radiesse Injectable Fillers for Wrinkle Treatment

Radiesse_logo_withtaglineLast night, Santa Barbara medical spa Evolutions hosted an event dedicated to injectable dermal fillers, highlighting the very popular wrinkle filler Radiesse

. We were excited to have our representative from Radiesse on hand to give a presentation and to answer questions afterwards.

Here is a recap from the presentation:

Definition of Youth!

A youthful face is generally broad across the cheeks that narrows below the cheek area.

Why does the face age?
    • Sun damage

    • Collagen loss

    • Thinning skin

    • The ligament that holds up the cheeks begins to stretch

  • Facial bone structure shrinks as we grow older

The face, as we age, can be compared to a deflating balloon. What you need to know is that it can be refilled – or volumized – with Radiesse, an injectable dermal filler.

What is Radiesse?

Radiesse is made from very small molecules of calcium in a water-based gel. The beauty of this product is that Radiesse gives the gift of instant gratification! You will see results as soon as it is injected. Radiesse also stimulates growth of your natural collagen (which we lose as we age) and the results may last one year or more (the average is 12 to 13 months). It is a more affordable wrinkle correction because of the lasting longevity – that means less injections over a life time.

What is the difference between Radiesse and Botox?

Radiesse is a filler and can be injected into the nasolabial lines (those that go from your nose to your mouth), the lines around your mouth, your chin area, your eyebrow area (to lift the eyes), and your cheeks. Botox and Dsyport, which relax (or freeze) the muscle, typically are injected in the forehead area and into the frown lines between eyebrows.

What happens to Radiesse in your body?

Over time your body absorbs the calcium-based microspheres from Radiesse and leaves behind more natural collagen.

Is Radiesse safe?

Radiesse has been FDA-approved for cosmetic use since December 2006. Over 2 million syringes have been sold! Previous to 2006, Radiesse was used for medical reasons including as a filler for cranial facial defects, for patients with facial lipoatrophy and to address issues with vocal cords.

Do the injections hurt?

Radiesse has worked to enhance the patient’s comfort level by mixing lidocaine in with the product. Patients report that it has reduced the pain by 60% (and the reported pain level dropped from a 6.8 to a 2.8 out of 10). Also, many physicians, including Evolutions Medical Spa, will apply a topical anesthetic for additional patient comfort.

Other facts about Radiesse

    • There is little to no downtime after injections

    • There is no allergy testing because no one is allergic to the components in it

    • It is purchased by syringe (1.5cc is a full syringe) which often can provide full correction (but depends on the patient)

    • Do not use while pregnant or breastfeeding

  • On the day that the injections are done, it is recommended to refrain from exercising (to prevent bruising) and suntanning

Some of the more common side effects are:

    • Bruising

    • Swelling – possibly for up to two days

  • Redness – more likely with fair skin

Evolutions Medical Spa offers a complimentary consultation for Radiesse (or for any of our medical spa services). Book a Santa Barbara Radiesse consultation by calling 805.687.0212.
