Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Treatment

Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) treatment uses your body’s own healing processes to rejuvenate your skin. This innovative procedure has been used with a high degree of success in other medical fields such as orthopedics for a number of years. There are an increasing number of professional athletes who receive PRP treatments to help speed their healing process when they are injured.
Now the same technology can be used to help your skin look younger, healthier, and more refreshed!

What is Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP)?

plateletsPlatelets found in your blood are often associated with helping blood to clot. While this is true, platelets also play an important role in wound healing by causing the release multiple growth factors into the area. This attracts stem cells and other “clean-up” cells to the wound which stimulates collagen production to make the wound stronger (and give it the ability to heal). PRP treatment has been used for a long time to treat orthopedic injuries. It speeds up healing and helps to regenerate new tissue.

The fact that platelets stimulate collagen production and strengthen the tissue around them means they can be used to help improve aesthetic outcomes.

How are PRP treatments done?

A small amount of your blood is drawn and the platelets are separated from other matter in your blood using a centrifuge specially designed by a Harvard hematologist to concentrate the platelet fraction of the blood up to 8 times the normal level. This creates a “Platelet Rich Plasma” (PRP) that is re-injected into your face, neck, hands, arms, etc. There is no risk of allergy, reaction or rejection because nothing is added to the blood. Effectively we are using a “supercharged” version of your body’s own healing process to give you a completely natural and highly effective rejuvenation treatment!

What does PRP Treat?

At the sites where the PRP is re-injected, a natural rejuvenation occurs from the stimulated collagen production and increased blood flow. Skin elasticity, texture, and color improves over time as the Platelet Rich Plasma helps to normalize aged and damaged tissue.

This treatment is particularly good for people with sun damaged, thin, or “crepey” skin. It can be used alone or to boost results of other treatments such as Fractional CO2 Resurfacing, chemical peeling, FotoFacials, etc.

When can I expect to see results?

Maximum results are usually seen after several weeks. Results can last up to 12 months. Two or three treatments are recommended for the best results and treatment can be repeated periodically for more longevity.

Can PRP treatments be combined with other procedures?

Yes! The PRP treatment is ideal to be done in combination with Fractional CO2 Resurfacing. PRP will accelerate the healing process and ultimately result in an improved final outcome.
PRP can also be done with dermal fillers.

Does it hurt? What is the downtime?

The needles used in the treatment are very small, so most clients feel the discomfort is minor. When necessary, we are also able to use a topical numbing cream and provide clients with a Xanax to help relax them during the procedure. Your comfort is important to us.

It typically takes 4-5 days to be able to apply make-up to the treated area.

How much does it cost?

Treatment costs vary depending on the size of the area treated and whether it is done as a standalone procedure or in combination with another treatment such as Fractional CO2 Resurfacing.
